Hi Everyone and a very Happy New Year to you all.

I have been fighting a cold and sore eye over christmas and thought it was getting better so injected Enbrel last night having missed one each of Enbrel and Methotrexate. Anyway I have woken this morning with swollen eyes nose and glands under the neck all very sore along with cheekbones. I have been to the doctor who has given me a high dose of antibiotics.
Has anyone else suffered with this? I was a bit concerned it might spread down my body but so far so good.

Sue

I had something very similar earlier this year Sue, although I'm on Humira+MTX.
The doctor described it as inflamed and infected soft tissue in the face and neck, very painful but the antibiotics worked their magic, hope they do for you too.

I sympathise as this sounds really painful and distressing. Antibiotics usually work quite quickly so hope that the start of 2012 sees you feeling better X

Hi Sue,
I had a nasty case of impetigo which infected the soft tissue in my face as well and developed into cellulitis. 2 weeks of antibiotics sorted out both but my GP said to make sure its gone completely before stopping them. I can feel for you its really painful on top of everything else!
Take care
Sara

Hi Everyone

Thank you all for your kind messages. I spent yesterday up at 2 A & E's which is not to be recommended on New Year's Eve!! Having gone to one I was referred to another as they had an eye department.
The swelling was increasing and going up into my eyes. It turns out that it is Cellulitis and it can be dangerous if it goes behind the eye.
Anyway after several hours they decided that the antibiotics should kick in and start to reduce the swelling so sent me home with instructions to keep an eyeBigGrin on things.

I am pleased to say that the swelling is starting to reduce although I would probably scare small children if they saw me!! Evidently we are susceptible to this due to our supressed immune system,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,never a dull moment with RA is there!

Happy New Year everyone

Sue

I am so glad that it seems to be improving. It sounded really scary! You need to rest now as much as possible and be looked after by those around you to enable you to fully recover X

So glad you went Sue I was told it could have turned into septicemia! Yes, very scarey. Keep keeping an eye on it! Glad your sense of humour is holding out if nothing else.

Thanks so much for all your good wishes.

I am feeling and looking so much better, the swelling has almost gone and I am left with a red flaking nose which the doctor has given me antibiotic cream for plus more antibiotics to make sure infection has gone..............so no Methotrexate or Enbrel again!

I will certainly keep a careful eye on my skin in future, I can't believe how quickly it happened.

Thanks again everyone.

Sue
